The Astor Theatre celebrated ‘Australia on Screen’ last month which featured, along with some other Australian cinema classics, Mad Max (1979) and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981).

Working from an extremely low budget George Miller’s Mad Max delivers a souped-up V8 tale of revenge in the bloodstained battlegrounds of the post-apocalyptic Australian outback. Influenced by classic westerns with an Aussie twist Mad Max is pure Ozploitation goodness.

The Road Warrior ramps up the action and brutality featuring one of the best metal grinding and exploding car chase sequences of all time.

When creating a print for classic Oz films you need a classic Oz artist and of course our resident Aussie Rhys Cooper came to the party with an amazing double bill poster to honour the screening.

Stop what your doing, get your hands on a copy of ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’ and watch the opening title sequence right now for a master class in cinematography, editing, sound and how to start one damn fine film. The creaking windmill, water dripping and the buzzing of a fly all lead up to the man, Charles Bronson as ‘Harmonica’, stepping off a train and handing out a lesson in bad-assery “Did you bring a horse for me?… You brought two too many.”

An awesome screen printed poster to celebrate the screening of OUATITW at the Astor was created by artist Oliver Barrett. This is Oliver’s first poster for us at TommyGood and we interviewed him about the print amongst other things on our artists page. Check it out here.

Sergio Leone’s 1968 epic western is a treasure trove of amazing cinematography with beautiful panoramic shots juxtaposed with his signature extreme close ups. The score by Ennio Morricone is a masterpiece that is timeless and the cast featuring Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale & Jason Robards is pitch perfect. Classic in every sense of the word.

You would think living in an ecologically balanced, hermetically sealed dome paradise where ones only concern is pleasure would be a pretty sweet deal… except for that one little catch. Once you hit 30 years of age you either ascend heavenward in a strange ritual that ends with your obliteration or alternatively you make a run for it and get hunted down by guys with bad haircuts, worse outfits and who have terrible aim of laser gun’s called Sandmen…

You’ve got to love Logan’s Run!

The 1976 sci-fi classic is filled with all the fun, campiness and out of date special effects that make for a damn good time in the cinema. To celebrate the September screening of Logan’s Run at the Astor Theatre we commissioned old faithful, Mr Tim Doyle, to create one of his screen printed gems. As always he delivered and we can proudly present the regular and variant editions in all their colorful glory.

If you are looking for a good time in the cinema it is hard to go past the psychotic road movie which suddenly explodes into the vampiric blood bath that is From Dusk Till Dawn. The 1996 Tarantino written & Rodriguez directed mash-up has been bloodily illustrated by our talented mean motor scooter Rhys Cooper.

Available soon in the Tommy Good store in both a regular and variant version, and lets just say, like the ‘Titty Twister’ and the film itself there is far more than meets the eye with these posters…

As always Rhys wanted to do something special for the variant and the ‘Bloodbath’ edition was turned! These prints actually look like they were hanging on the wall of the Titty Twister when the shit hit the fan with a healthy dose of Hollywood style blood spray lovingly made & splattered by Mr Cooper himself.

And don’t think we didn’t have to talk Rhys out of using his own blood on these special variants! He was ready to book himself in at the doc’s office, the only thing holding us back – customs officers. Apparently sending real human blood around the world in an unofficial capacity is a no no… who’d have thought?

Another Stanley Kubrick classic illustrated by a creative and talented artist - yes please!

Kubrick’s visual masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey is screening at the Astor Theatre this Easter weekend and Tim Doyle got his monolith on with his fourth poster installment for Tommy Good. Once again Mr Doyle absolutely nailed it producing a wonderfully layered illustration that celebrates this ground breaking 1968 film that is made up of so many unforgettable images.

There will be a regular and variant edition available at the Tommy Good store. The variant is printed on a beautiful silver foil stock, check out the pics below.

Stanley Kubrick’s sensationally styled and controversial 1971 powerhouse A Clockwork Orange was enjoyed by a packed house at the Astor Theatre on Monday night. To help celebrate the screening a very special and limited print was created by some home grown Australian talent - Rhys Cooper. The Astor is screening APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) on the 3rd of February. Francis Ford Coppola’s amazing, sprawling & crazy ass film is a sight to behold. If you can’t get to the Astor I highly suggest getting your hands on a copy and revisiting this epic, at the very least to see the opening tracking shot of paradise burning to the Doors haunting ‘The End’.

A sweet package arrived at the office the other day from Tim Doyle. We knew Tim’s poster was awesome when we saw the electronic version but it aint nothing like seeing it in the flesh, what a treat. In no way do these photographs do it justice but it gives you a better idea of how kick ass this poster is. Thanks Tim!

The colours on this print are so good it hurts. A fitting tribute to the seminal counterculture road movie. The less I say about Easy Rider the better, just go & watch it!

To celebrate the multiple screenings we have had two amazing Blade Runner posters (& one variant) created by our trusted & extremely talented stalwarts Tim Doyle & Godmachine.

It would not surprise me at all to find out that Godmachine was some sort of replicant designed by the Tyrell Corporation with superhuman illustration skills. GM is on another level.

Tim Doyle has already created two amazing Blade Runner centric prints ‘White Dragon’ & ‘If You’ve Seen What I’ve Seen’. Not inviting him to do a show poster for the screening would be an act worthy of a Blade Runner style ‘retirement’. Tim delivered the goods once again with his ‘Tears in the Rain’ peice. All the posters were printed at Tim’s workshop Nakatomi Inc & they did a killer job.

I AIN'T GOT TIME TO BLEED

When I found out the Astor was screening Predator I only had one person in mind for the poster - GODMACHINE. Fortunately for everyone GM was down & absolutely killed it!

I had an idea in my head of what it would look like, suffice to say my expectations were vastly exceeded… no one does spinal chords & skulls like Godmachine. To add to the joy he is a super rad guy and loves his cat as much as I do mine, a rare find let me tell you.

Predator is such an awesome movie, it starts off as a kick-ass jungle war flick with a bunch of cool commando characters then suddenly turns into a sci-fi assassin chase movie. It features one of the best designed movie monsters of all time, Arnold at his best and just the right amount of 80’s cheese. For me it’s damn near perfect. And I don’t care what anyone says, the Arnold Schwarzenegger & Carl Weathers sweaty, homo-erotic, bicep bulging, mid air, arm wrestle at the start of the movie is the best hand shake greeting in cinema history.

SHOOT the GLASS!

Die Hard is the first action movie I fell in love with as a kid. I distinctly remember watching it 3 times in a row on a rainy day in my best friends lounge room. We would compete to see who could remember the most lines of dialogue each time through… we got pretty good at it by the end. 20 years later we still often greet each other with “Glass? Who gives a shit about glass ?” Sad but true.

Tim D did an amazing job on the poster, capturing one of the films iconic scenes in his own unique style. I love the bandage on the foot. Make sure you check out Tim’s interview, he is a super cool & generous guy.
